Veronica Horowitz is an assistant professor in the UB Department of Sociology and Criminology. Her research focuses on American criminal punishment, with a subfocus on gender. Her current work uses mixed-methods and multi-methods approaches to investigate a range of current penal practices including executive clemency, monetary sanctions, child support debt, prisons, and prison reform, specifically investigating the adoption of Norwegian principles in an American prison.

In addition to her scholarly work, Horowitz is involved in efforts to help provide current and formerly incarcerated people with access to higher education and support these populations more broadly. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes on crime and punishment and will be teaching in the new 猛料视频 College in Prison Program in Wende Correctional Facility in Spring of 2026.
